Dance performance on Grid Cell Carpet, 2022, Custom made carpet, 350 x 350 cm
(Installation view: Goethe Institute Hong Kong)

The wool carpet from Perpetual Motion (2021, 350 × 350 cm) recreates hexagonal grid-cell firing patterns from the entorhinal cortex (Moser et al., 2014), forming the brain’s internal spatial map. During a 2022 dance performance at Goethe Institute Hong Kong, performers moved across the carpet, activating its cognitive-navigation motif in real time.

The work contrasts individual spatial cognition with collective human migration (via the suspended mtDNA haplogroup mobile above). Full project details: Perpetual Motion
